X-ray imaging is the most common imaging method used in Finland. The examination is based on the use of X-rays and always requires a doctor’s referral.
The examination is quick and painless
X-rays are used to examine teeth, musculoskeletal injuries, changes in damage caused by wear and tear as well as inflammatory conditions in the body. When examining the lung area, X-ray is the primary method.
Depending on the subject, the X-ray is taken in a standing, lying or sitting position. About 2–4 images are usually taken from different directions, which takes between 5 and 15 minutes. Any jewellery, buttons, metal and blood glucose sensors are removed from the area to be imaged. It is important to remain still during the X-ray to ensure that the image is sharp. The radiographer will give breathing instructions during the X-ray, if necessary.
