Combined breast examination

The combined breast examination combines mammography and 3D ultrasound examination of the breasts.

The compression may feel uncomfortable or painful, but it only takes a few seconds at a time. If the breasts are not sufficiently compressed, the image will not be diagnostically accurate and the radiation dose will increase.
A moisturiser-like gel is applied to the skin to ensure an optimal image. A scanner is placed on the chest to create 3D slices from multiple directions. A radiologist analyses the mammogram and ultrasound images and issues a statement on them. The statement can be viewed in SYNLAB’s online service within 3–5 working days.
